Culture Helping Culture – Partnership Program
In 2022, the Kulturrat NRW launched a program with funding from the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of NRW with the aim of connecting artists who had fled Ukraine with NRW artists. The so-called partnership program was announced a second time in 2023 after a first successful run. In both years, projects involving a total of 69 tandems were successfully supported.
Here you will find a selection of projects.
The partnerships focused on one-to-one support with the aim of facilitating profound and sustainable personal and professional networking with refugee artists from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia and the cultural landscape in NRW. At the same time, the focus was on artistic cooperation and cultural exchange at eye level. The applicants were responsible for shaping the content of the partnership.
The partnerships could include the following commitments, among others:
- Artistic collaborations that may result in (joint) exhibitions, concerts, readings or other events
- Shared use of studios, ateliers or rehearsal rooms
- Support at events and networking with discussion partners and multipliers from the cultural sector
- Support with applications and imparting knowledge about the funding landscape and business start-ups in NRW
- Placement of job opportunities or support in application processes
- Assistance with visits to authorities and/or finding accommodation
In the second year, in addition to partnerships with Ukrainian cultural creators, sponsorships were also occasionally provided for artists and cultural creators from Belarus and Russia who had fled to NRW due to their dissident stance.
